Common Questions:
_____________________________________________________________________

  1.       What size photo should I send?

Facial details are crucial and should be easy to see, the clearer the photo the better the caricature. The size of the face/head should be no smaller than a quarter, bigger is always better. A light back-ground is helpful so the overall shape of the subjects hair/head can be clearly seen.
**For color orders, please specify eye and hair color.

2.       Will you need more than one photograph?

Please keep in mind that though you may know how the person that you want drawn looks personally, I will be drawing based on the image you have sent. For a better idea of how the subject looks it is helpful to have more than one photo demonstrating three or four different views. For a group drawing you do not need to send photos of the whole group in one picture. Individual shots of each person is preferred!
**For color orders, please specify eye and hair colors for each person.

3.       Do I get the pictures back?

Absolutely! Hardcopy photos are always returned.

4.       Can I send my photos to you via e-mail?

Yes, in fact that can help things move along, however it is a good idea to wait until your order is confirmed. Upon confirmation I will send you the information related to sending picture files.

5.       Do you ship out of state?

Yes! Many of my clients are out of state. You may choose Priority Mail (add $7.00) or next day delivery via Express Mail (add $17.00).

6.       How long does it take to get my drawing?

Orders are processed in the order they are received and turnaround time is dependent upon the size of the order and current workload.  A lead time of three weeks is recommended. Rush orders can sometimes be squeezed into the schedule but are subject to an additional fee.

7.       Why do caricatures cost less at amusement parks and fairs?

When a "live" caricature is drawn, it's done "in one take" in about five to ten minutes. Any stray lines or goof-ups are part of the picture and aren't corrected. The artist has total editorial control over the picture's content, color, and size, and the work is not done with top quality materials. Quantity (how many people drawn) is the main concern for live work.

In contrast, with custom "from photograph" work, I ask that you approve a preliminary sketch before finalizing the image. You have the freedom to give direction on a pose, props or any wording to be included. Unlike a street artist, I take the time to work with you to make sure you are satisfied with the final product.

***Please NOTE: Revisions that lead to multiple "back & forth" changes may result in standard hourly charges ($100 per). The artist reserves the right to decline finalizing artwork should an unreasonable number of revisions occur.

8.       Can you get this done faster so I can get it framed?

The common misconception is that framers need the artwork well in advance. This isn't always true. If you know the size of the artwork (as you would since you choose the picture size) you can either purchase pre-made frames or purchase custom frames by just the size alone. Since the artwork is custom-made, it can be designed using a predetermined dominant color to match a mat selected in advance.
Just as is done with photos, artwork done on paper can just be slipped into a frame in minutes without professional help in most cases. If this seems to be a concern, you may ask your framer to provide directions and/or to make sure that they give you a frame that has a backing that can be easily opened.
